Why do laser printer drum units need replacing?
Drum units need to be replaced to ensure the quality of your printing is maintained. A drum unit which is not replaced when required can lead to print issues such as smudges and streaks and also cause toner leakage due to the bearing wearing out.
How is the life of a drum calculated?
A drum unit’s life is calculated by the number of rotations. Brother calculates your drum life by a set amount of times the drum makes a full 360-degree rotation. When it reaches its limit, it will prompt you to change the drum.
What are drum units made of?
Drum units are made of photosensitive material that interacts with the laser inside the printer. The drum unit is exposed to the laser unit building up an electro- static image that attracts the toner and transfers it onto the paper.
How do I know when to change my Drum?
Brother laser printers, use the internal counters to warn you. The “end of life soon” message and also the “end of life” message for the Drum Unit appears to tell you that you need to change the drum unit to maintain high quality outputs.
